Amboseli is one of the best preserved Kenya’s national parks. Despite not having a large number of the oficial Kenyan Wildlife Service rangers, poaching is almost non existent. Much of its success is due to a project that organizes teams of local community rangers (masai) that live in the surroundings of the national park. This “community scout rangers” project creates a network of highly committed observers that are vital in the fight against poaching. They patrol daily and report the state and movement of wildlife around the park. They also mediate in human-wildlife conflicts and keep elephants safe and away from the farms that they are trying to access at night. With African Conservation Center and Amboseli Ecosystem Trust.
